What do Memorial Day, Mommies, and the Self Storage Industry Have in Common?

Moms across the country are likely gearing up for a pretty big weekend; one in which it is common for families to get together and spend time together at picnics, pool parties and all sorts of other events (with Mom likely doing all the planning and heavy lifting). One self storage company has come up with a way to honor Moms and the reason for Memorial Day all at the same time.

The good people at San Diego Self Storage have found a way to show respect to the men and women that give Memorial Day its meaning and do something for the many mothers that could use a little help making ends meet.

Starting this Memorial Day weekend (more specifically on May 25) San Diego Self Storage will be kicking off its first “Bottles for Babies” campaign. The purpose of it will be to collect baby bottles and/or donations to go towards buying them. Bottles will then be purchased through MOM4USA, and then distributed to first-time parents where one parent is on active duty, wounded veterans, and active-duty reservists.

“SDSS is proud to sponsor this collection which is being launched during Memorial Day weekend to not only commemorate our fallen military heroes from the U.S. Armed Forces, but to also celebrate a new generation of military babies whose parents can use additional support for their new-born infants,” said Steven Teixeira, the Director of Property Management for San Diego Self Storage.

Donations can be made at any of the seventeen locations that San Diego Self Storage has and will be collected through June 30th.

Helping local charities and especially ones geared towards helping military families has been a long running practice for San Diego Self Storage (as well as many other members of the self storage industry).

During Memorial Day Weekend last year San Diego Self Storage kicked off a different charity drive, but one that was also geared towards benefiting military families in need. The beneficiary of the drive was a non-for-profit called Homefront San Diego.

“It came to our attention that there are an increasing number of military personnel who have been relocated to San Diego from active duty who have immediate needs that cannot be filled through traditional military channels —- it’s our goal to help fulfill those needs by providing easy access to drop off points throughout the county…” said Teixeira.
