Most sports fans will be familiar with the phrase ‘If you build it, he will come!’ from the 1989 movie Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta, and James Earl Jones. While most people in a customer driven business like the self storage industry wishes that was all there is to it when it comes to being a success, it is not. You can build it, but if they don’t know that you have they will not come.
That is where advertising and marketing comes into play. The problem with those is that you can spend thousands—even millions—and still not reach your customer base. That is why several websites have popped up that essentially act as an online yellow pages for the self storage industry.
As the economy worsened and the demand for self storage space was on the rise, another need was established—being able to locate a self storage facility in the area in which you need.
USstoragesearch.com was created for just that purpose; to connect consumers with self storage facilities. Recently the site launched the Self Storage Network which allows consumers to do more than just locate self storage facilities. Member sites like StorageUnit.com will allow consumers to reserve a unit once they find it with a new, easy to use reservation site.
“Most of us have used the internet to reserve a hotel room, rent a car, buy an airline ticket or make a dinner reservation so why shouldn’t you be able to do the same for storage units? Like many other industries, gone are the days of calling or driving from storage facility to storage facility to find the self storage unit consumers need,” Randy Yoder, Director of Operations for StorageUnit.com said.
The site currently works with around 4,000 self storage companies around the country. Consumers can search for them on the site in a number of different ways according to location, and can further sort choices by amenities as well. Once they are done searching they can review their choices for their rates, if there any specials, and the availability of units. StorageUnit.com will sometimes also have coupons or special offers for users as well.
“By using StorageUnit.com consumers will know they have the storage unit they need without making an extra trip or two to the facility before they start moving in…it also doesn’t hurt to save a little money in the process too!” Yoder said.
