In the next few months, several state self storage associations will hold conferences and trade shows. Here is some information on ones held in Connecticut, Florida, Arizona, and Canada.
The Connecticut Self Storage Association will hold its Winter Conference on February 16, 2012 in North Haven. There will be two sessions of the conference. The session titled “Economic State of the Industry in the Northeast” will run from 10:00 a.m. and go until 2:00 p.m. A panel of real estate and finance experts will talk about the economic condition of the self storage industry. They will also discuss the ins and outs of refinancing, expanding, selling or buying. Registration is $45 for members and $65 for nonmembers.
The other session titled “Social Media Workshop” will go from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Attendees will learn about social media marketing strategies. This session will be hands-on and attendees will create a functioning social media presence by the end of the session. Registration will be $189 for members and $215 for nonmembers. If you happen to live in Canada, the Canadian Self Storage Association will hold its 6th Annual Western Regional Conference and Tradeshow. It will be April 17, 2012 through April 20th. It will be held at the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel & Convention Centre in Richmond, British Columbia. Registration is free for individuals. You can click here to register.
The Florida Self Storage Association will hold its 2012 Spring Conference & Trade Show April 25 through April 27, 2012. They will have a panel discussion about the past growth in the industry and its future. Peter Sheahan will discuss creative strategies for turning challenges into opportunities. There will also be sessions that share construction and financing case studies, that discuss remote banking, and that talk about technology upgrades. You can click here to register.
The Arizona Self Storage Association will hold its 14th Annual Conference and Tradeshow from May 7 through May 9, 2012. It will be at the Phoenix Marriott Mesa in Mesa, Arizona.
The conference theme is “Back to Basics.” It will focus on basic business fundamentals such as accounts receivable, marketing costs that lead to leases, merchandise sales, revenue growth tactics, the 3-5 mile micro market surrounding your facility, and how customer service and superior maintenance is the first line of marketing.
There will also be a virtual facility tour that showcases facilities nationwide and their efforts to add new streams of income, increase customer service, and using new tactics and technology to handle ongoing challenges.
Brad North of Advantage Consulting and Management will lead a separate session for managers. He will focus on maximizing profitability through sales, marketing and operational effectiveness. The session for owners and operators will cover the results of the 2011 Market Survey, legal issues, and self storage financing. There will also be an interactive round table discussion, over 50 exhibits, and a golf tournament.
