There is a Compassionate Side to the Self Storage Industry

To some who have lost things that they wanted after their self storage unit was sold at a lien auction there probably isn’t a compassionate side to the self storage industry. What those people would be failing to remember is that lien auctions are considered by many to be a regretful aspect of doing business, and not one that managers look forward to.Those same people are probably not aware of all the good that many self storage facilities do in the community either.

Take A-1 Self Storage in California. The company has a long history of giving back to not just the local community, but the state, national, and even international communities. Recently it made a monetary donation to the Grossmont Hospital Foundation Homes for Hospice Program, an establishment that serves the needs of people in San Diego East County.

Hospice refers to the care given a person that is suffering from a terminal illness and is in the final stages of life. Among the many things it does for people include pain relief, daily comfort, and an opportunity for loved ones to get closure.

“Hospice care is such a great blessing to the families and patients who are in end-of-life circumstances.” said Brian Caster, President and CEO of A-1 Self Storage. “Although it is never easy to say goodbye to a loved one, the care, guidance and education provided through Homes for Hospice is invaluable to the families and patients. We are privileged to be able to support organizations such as Grossmont Hospital Foundation Homes for Hospice.”

Several facilities have offered their assistance to hospice care facilities in the past. Last summer in the UK, the good people at the Big Yellow Self Storage facility in Rumford helped Farleigh Hospice construct a storage shed on site giving them a permanent solution to their self storage needs.

In May 2012 another UK self storage facility, Armadillo Self Storage, pledged its support for a hospice facility, the Butterwick Hospice Care.

“We were delighted to help out such a worthwhile local charity and look forward to working with them in the future on local fundraising events,” said Scott McDonald of Armadillo Self Storage.

A-1 Self Storage has made a practice of supporting hospice care facilities in the past as well. It has also supported the efforts of San Diego Hospice through donations.

“Caring, helpful and encouraging support during a difficult season is a tremendous gift.” said Brian Caster, President and CEO of A-1 Self Storage. “At San Diego Hospice that is what you get – friends who walk with you and your loved one during the most challenging of times. Here at A-1, we gladly support San Diego Hospice.”
