Yesterday, the William Warren Group announced that they have hired their first Chief Strategy Officer (CSO). Gary Sugarman was hired to fill this position.
Previous to accepting this position, Sugarman was the Chief Operating Officer of Edison Properties LLC for five years. (Edison Properties specializes in parking, mini storage, small offices, and flexible workspace. They own a Class A office building and a 23 story residential apartment tower in Manhattan.)
At Edison, he was responsible for all business units in Edison’s real-estate portfolio. One of his direct responsibilities included all aspects of operating the Manhattan Mini Storage portfolio.
Before working for Edison, Sugarman worked 20 years operating several national retail chains and practiced as a Wall Street corporate finance attorney. (Sugarman graduated from the Harvard Law School.)
He also served as chairman of the New York Self Storage Association, as a board member of the national Self Storage Association Large Operators Council, and as a member of CubeSmart’s Board of Strategic Advisors.
The William Warren Group started a new strategic growth plan in 2012. At that time, they hired Kent Christensen as the company’s COO. (Christensen was previously a former executive vice president and CFO for Extra Space Storage.)
During the last two years, they have focused on investing in their infrastructure and creating an industry leading team of professionals. Sugarman brings his forward thinking expertise to the team where they will create a new world business plan and strategy so they can expand their brand nationally.
Bill Hobin, president and CEO of the William Warren Group, stated that the company was excited about the strength and diversity that Sugarman will add to their executive management team.
