The 2013 Fall Conference & Trade Show is going strong in Las Vegas. Today is the second day of the four-day event.
Yesterday, David Meerman Scott, a marketing strategist, taught a social media marketing master class. He taught how to harness the power of online marketing. Using his step-by-step framework, he showed how to use blogs, viral marketing, podcasts, online video, and search engine marketing. He helped attendees learn how to build an online marketing strategy and create an action plan to reach the self storage audiences directly.
A new feature for the conference was the direct member lounge. Members of the national Self Storage Association could relax in a special lounge, sip a complimentary beverage, or enjoy a snack before they went to their next session or to the trade show.
There were events specifically aimed at attendees from Canada. There was a self storage operator’s certification course for those affiliated with the Canadian SSA. There was even an all Canadian networking cocktail reception where they could gather and meet and network with others in the industry.
There were several concurrent sessions to choose from:
- Outside Your Facility, Curb Appeal Nightmare (for small-sized operators)
- Top Issues for Mid-Sized Operators (topics covered included hiring, training, and retaining the right employees, understanding reports, establishing policies and procedures)
- Trespassing and Self Storage
- Increasing Revenues and Profits
- Ideas on Tax Savings
- Time Management
- Learning the Personality of Employees
- Understanding Search Engine Optimization
Just outside of the welcoming reception, the 4th Annual NVSSA Legislative Action Fundraiser silent auction was held. There were also roundtable discussions and a cyber café.
Tomorrow, Christopher Lee, the keynote speaker, will give his address on ‘A Futurist Perspective on Why Self Storage Will Prosper in the Years Ahead.’ He will explain the economic reasons why self storage will continue to prosper, talk about real estate cycles, discuss the psychology of real estate, and share the industry survey results.
Mr. Lee is the president and chief executive officer of CEL & Associates, Inc., which is one of the nations leading real estate advisory firms. He is a frequent speaker at national real estate conferences and regularly contributes to various real estate publications. He is the editor of the national real estate newsletter Strategic Advantage.
On Thursday, there will be a SSA Young Leaders Group. This is for the next generation of self storage professionals. This session will allow the ‘future’ of the industry to meet each other and network in a fun, social environment.
