Team SmartStop Pro Cycling is competing this week in the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah competition. The Tour of Utah is known as the toughest stage race in America and is one of only five Union Cycliste Internationale-sanctioned, multi-stage pro cycling events in North America for 2014.
The race will cover over 753 miles as cyclists race from the red sandstone mountains in Cedar City in Southern Utah to the majestic Wasatch Mountains in Park City to the north. The race includes several mountain passes over the seven-stage course. The North Ogden Divide and the Powder Mountain Road will be especially challenging for the cyclists.
This race is the first internationally sanctioned cycling competition in North America after July’s Tour de France. One-hundred-and-twenty-eight professional cyclists from 26 countries will participate in the race. Spectators will be able to see world-class competitors in action.
Team SmartStop has worked hard to receive an invitation to be one of the 16 teams allowed to compete. Michael Creed, team director, credited Travis McCabe’s win at the Redlands Bicycle Classis as a key stepping stone for the team to be selected.
Creed has a strong team this year. Zach Bell is the reigning Canadian National Road Champion. Michael Torckler won the 2013 Tour of Utah KOM Competition. Travis McCabe is the Elite National Criterium Champion.
In addition to taking over as director of the team this year, Creed is a highly skilled cyclist in his own right. In fact, he is one of the most decorated amateur riders in U.S. history.
“We are excited that Team SmartStop will be part of this prestigious event,” said H. Michael Schwartz, chairman and CEO of Strategic Storage Trust, Inc., a publicly registered REIT targeting the self storage market under the SmartStop Self Storage brand name. “We’re proud of our team of world-class professionals, who represent our philanthropic desire to keep our communities healthy and promote an active lifestyle.”
Self storage facilities in the Strategic Storage Trust portfolio are branded SmartStop Self Storage. They have 126 properties in 17 states and Canada with approximately 80,000 units and 10.5 million rentable square feet of storage.
