College tuition is expensive. Textbooks are expensive. When you add class and lab fees and supplies, cost of rent and money for food, going to college can be a big financial drain on the pocketbook.
Many students apply for scholarships to help ease the cost of getting an education. However, competition for scholarships is fierce and many scholarships have requirements that reduce the pool of who can apply.
StorageMart understands the expense of education and understands just how difficult getting a scholarship can be. So, they created their own scholarship program called ScholarSmarts. It was designed for a wide spectrum of students and for those who might not otherwise be eligible of more traditional type of scholarships.
The scholarship was open to anyone enrolled in any type of college, university public school or private school. Students also enrolled in a technical school, culinary school, military or veterinary school, cosmetology, or an apprentice program could also apply.
Applicants were required to write a 500-word essay on the link between a clutter-free workspace and increased productivity and how self storage has improved their lifestyle. Nearly 2,000 people applied.
The five winners will receive $1,000 to be used toward any expense involved with getting a higher education. It could be used for books and tuition or even rent and childcare. Recipients of the Fall 2012 ScholarSmarts Scholarships are:
• Gloria Cardona of the University of Texas-Pan American (Edinburg, Texas)
• Val Andrew Fajardo of the University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Ontario)
• Mike Wilson of the University of Victoria (Victoria, British Columbia)
• Chandler Smith of the New York Film Academy
• Ashley Deutsch, currently of Ennis (TX) High School and the University of Texas-Arlington this fall
StorageMart will award more scholarships for the winter semester of 2013.
In addition to sponsoring the StorageMart ScholarSmarts scholarship program, StorageMart support local charities within its communities. Some of them include the Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity, adoption and foster care programs, and animal rescue missions. They recently partnered with Charity Storage (who donates proceeds to Kure It) and served as a drop off location.
StorageMart has locations in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Virginia. They also have facilities in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Toronto, Quebec, and Saskatchewan Canada. They have a total of 135 properties.
