Many members of the self storage community have been known to assist people in the community with their educational pursuits. Storage.com, a site that works as a self storage aggregator, has now become one of them.
Storage.com is aware of how much it can cost to attend college as well as how important a good education is in order to get life started on the right foot. So to help people cover the costs associated with pursuing a college education, the company decided to hold a contest.
To enter the contest, interested people had to write a short essay. The subject matter to be covered depended on which category you fell under. Students entering their first semester and current college students had to respond to this:
“Given that you already have the necessities for college, if you could only take what fits into a backpack, what would you bring?”
Parents of college-bound kids were eligible for the contest as well, but they had a different question to answer:
“In a perfect world, when your child moves out for college, what are you going to do with their bedroom?”
A single winner would be chosen in each category: current student, first-time student, and parent with each receiving $2500.
“…It was great to see how creative the students and parents were with the entries and how they got their fans to support them online. It was also quite amazing to see the power and reach of the Storage.com brand throughout the United States as thousands of visitors each week looked at our scholarship opportunity,” said Bill Hipsher, co-founder of the marketing firm B² Interactive, which operates Storage.com.
The winners were Houghton College student Lauren Bechtel; Olivia Fish, soon to be of Chapman University in California; and Ruben Terrazas, whose daughter Astrid is enrolled at the Pratt Institute.
Storage.com is not the only company that holds a scholarship contest. StorageMart has been holding a scholarship contest for the fall and spring semester for some time. Those interested in entering have to write an essay on one of two questions:
- “What link is there between a clutter-free workspace and increased productivity?”
- “How has self storage improved your lifestyle?”
StorageMart will award the best five essays a $1000 scholarship that the winner can use on whatever expenses they may have in the process of pursuing their education.
