Storage Business Owners Alliance (SBOA) Partner with Canadian Self Storage Association

The Storage Business Owners Alliance LLC (SBOA) announced that it is partnering with the Canadian Self Storage Association (CSSA). By partnering together, members of the Canadian Self Storage Association will gain a pricing advantage with vendors who serve storage facilities in the Canadian market.

Many times, independent self storage owners and operators are at a financial disadvantage compared to bigger businesses. Storage business owners do not have the same clout in buying power that big businesses have. When facility owners and managers join the SBOA, their buying power significantly increases. This in turn saves them money.

The SBOA was organized specifically for owners and operators of self storage facilities. Members of this organization receive significant price breaks on goods and services that they use in their day-to-day operations. It is a cooperative organization between vendors and facility owners that give vendors an increased customer base of businesses who need their services and gives facility owners price breaks. It’s a win-win situation for both facility owners and vendors.

There are several benefits for belonging to the SBOA. In addition to better prices, other benefits also include the SBOA notifying its members when new vendors join the alliance. It also distributes marketing material to their members from all of the associated vendors.

The Self-Service Storage Association of Canada was created in 1980 as Region 9 in the Self-Storage Association (SSA) of North America. Later, the SSA was reorganized into three regions eliminating the need for Region 9. The Self-Storage Association in Canada soon fell into inactivity.

When changes to the tax laws loomed on the horizon, Joe Kormos started the Ontario Storage Association in 2001. Kormos educated facility owners and the government about how the taxation legislation would impact self storage owners. The proposed tax legislation was never passed because of Kormos’ efforts. Since then, Kormos has been instrumental in building the CSSA into an active association.

SBOA membership is now open to any self storage facility owner in Canada and the United States. Anyone in Canada wishing to take advantage of the SBOA-CSSA partnership should contact the CSSA office by calling 888-898-8538 or emailing info (at) cssa (dot) ca.
