SpareFoot Storage Finder recently announced that Cory Michner was promoted to the position of a team leader for the Client Relations Team. His new responsibilities include training new team members and improving communications with clients.
Michner has an unusual professional background prior to working for SpareFoot two years ago. Before arriving at the University of Texas on an ROTC scholarship, he developed a severe food allergy that made him ineligible for military service.
Since he had played high school football and was a three-year letterman and a two-year starter on both the defensive and offensive team, he decided to try out for the university’s football team. To his delight, they selected him to play on the scout team. (The scout team helps the starting players prepare for upcoming games.)
Michner played defensive end on the scout team all four years while he was at the university. He played against some of the best athletes in the country. In addition to playing on the scout team, he even played in a few games with the regular football team.
Thoughts of playing for the NFL didn’t come to fruition. So, after graduating from the university in 2009, Michner got a job teaching English in Argentina. He taught for five months.
One of his initial intentions for going to Argentina was to learn Spanish. However, a secret ambition was to get a job with an outfitter group so that he could be a fly-fishing guide.
While trying to find an outfitter group, Michner did maintenance work for a lodge in Tierra del Fueg, an archipelago off the southernmost tip of the South American mainland. After working for some time there, he eventually landed his dream job as a fly-fishing guide.
His position as a guide took him from Argentina to Alaska to Norway. He absolutely loved his work because he was able to fish and to see spectacular scenery in remote places that very few people ever get a chance to visit.
In 2012, Michner returned to Austin where got a job as an account coordinator with Longhorn IMG Sports Marketing. (They do multimedia marketing for the University of Texas’ athletics program.) Then, earlier this year, Michner joined SpareFoot’s Client Relations Team. Because of his passion and skills, SpareFoot made him a team lead after just a few short months on the job.
