Austin is a cool place. It’s trendy. It is the mecca that draws new college grads and millennials. It sports foot trucks especially for dogs and it is home to techies and hippies. Part of that cool techie scene is SpareFoot, an online marketplace where customers can find and reserve storage units online.
SpareFoot is as cool as the city is. On the fun side, SpareFoot employees competed in — and won –Austin’s Startup Olympics. SpareFoot held a contest to give away a mini fridge (loaded to the hilt with Monster energy drinks). They also self-produced
On the serious side, they give away college scholarships. Earlier this year they reached out and helped the victims of the explosion in the town of West, Texas. They also helped the victims of the tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma.
After doing all of cool these things, what’s next on the agenda for the company? A contest!
SpareFoot is holding a Selfie Photo Contest giving folks a chance to win six months of storage free or a $500 gift card.
The contest runs from now through October 20, 2013 and people are encouraged to enter a self-portrait photo. But SpareFoot doesn’t want ‘normal’ self photos. OH no. They want weird ones, unusual ones, unique ones – ones with the zaniest item that the person is putting into storage.
“Everybody has that one weird thing that has to go into storage,” SpareFoot Marketing Manager Rachel Greenfield said. “I have a solid gold leotard from our recruiting video taking up my closet space. This photo contest is a safe place to share everyone’s weirdest stuff and take a selfie without feeling self-conscious.”
Entry into the giveaway is simple–visit the contest tab on SpareFoot’s Facebook page and follow these steps:
- Snap a selfie (a self-portrait photo) with the wackiest, most interesting or most unusual item going into storage.
- Upload the photo directly through the tab, or post it to Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #storageselfie.
- Encourage friends to vote for your photo by sharing the link selfstora.ge/storageselfie on Facebook and Twitter.
- Get the most votes to win six free months of storage or a $500 Visa gift card!
“Self-storage can get pretty crazy,” SpareFoot Social Media Manager Matt Stites said. “It’s not all old photos and rusty bikes. People store fascinating stuff, and we want to see some of that.”
The winner will be announced on SpareFoot’s Facebook page after the contest closes Oct. 20, 2013.
