Do you know which city in the United States has the official motto as the “Live Music Capital of the World?” Is it Boston with its Boston Pops orchestra, the Boston symphony, and the Boston Musicians’ Association that has over 1,600 professional musicians?
What about Philadelphia, which is home to the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Wanamaker Grand Organ, a jazz festival, Bach festival, and folk festival – and is the birthplace to early vocalists who were prominent in the early ears of rock and roll such as Chubby Checker, Frankie Avalon, and Bobby Rydell?
Nope. It isn’t Boston or Philadelphia. It’s Austin, Texas, home to SpareFoot Storage Finder, the world’s largest, online marketplace for self storage.
Every night in Austin, over one hundred venues within the city have live music performances. Austin also has two orchestras. There are musicians in every nook and cranny in the city. This spurred SpareFoot to launch a battle of the bands contest.
This is SpareFoot’s first-ever Battle of the Storage Bands contest. Beginning January 13, a local musician or band can submit a YouTube video of their performance of an original song on SpareFoot’s Battle of the Storage Bands tab on their Facebook page. There’s a catch. That artist or band must practice in a storage unit in the Austin area to enter the contest. That’s the first entry rule.
Other contest rules include that the artist or band have to submit a YouTube video of them performing one of their original songs. The video caption must include the name or names of the artist or band members. It must include the name of the local self storage facility where they practice. And, the artist or band must encourage supporters to vote for their video by February 21.
After February 21, the selection committee will consider the three videos that have the most online votes. The committee will choose one to be the winner.
The winning artist or band will open the SpareFoot Party on March 7th, which will be held at the Scoot Inn! They will have the opportunity to play for 30 minutes at the party. The artist or band will also get VIP passes to the party. They will also get event transportation and one night’s lodging for free.
The Austin Business Journal named SpareFoot as the Best Place to Work in Austin for 2013. SpareFoot has also been named one of the country’s Best Young Companies to Work for and the Top Workplace in the Austin area.
