Self Storage the Secret to Success for Some

For everyone there is one thing that stands out as what led them on the path to success that they are on today. Education may do the trick for some. For others, it may be that they know the right people in the right places and getting the proverbial door open.  In many cases, it might be just blind luck.

For some it happens to be buying other peoples’ treasures out of a self storage unit.

Reality television shows are a dime a dozen these days. In most cases the people on the shows get their fifteen minutes of fame and are never heard from again. A select few go onto become politicians, professional wrestlers, and even a host on a daytime talk show.

Dave Hester and Dan Dotson, two of the personalities on the popular cable reality show Storage Wars, its been the time they have spent around the self storage industry that has made them as well known as they are. The duo have made the most of their time on the show by partnering up to start their own auction house.

Hester is one of the most successful consignment buyers in the country and runs Dave Hester Auctions. Dotson is one of the most successful auctioneers in the country.

“Our last auction was a huge success but we expect the next auction to have even higher quality items.” Hester also noted that buyers of every type attended the auction. “We saw newlyweds looking to furnish their homes, electronics resellers building inventory and aspiring restaurateurs looking to outfit their commercial kitchens. This was exactly the type of mix we wanted, since these auctions are open to everyone, and everyone has an opportunity to bid and win.”

The two became well known on the A&E reality show Storage Wars. In it, the cameras follow the show’s buyers around as they go about the process of buying the contents of storage units once people fail to pay their bill for a certain period of time and a lien is placed against the unit. Sometimes they pay pennies on the dollar for a virtual treasure while at other times the contents of the self storage unit is complete junk.

The auction house has already hosted one event and will look to host another one on May 24th.

People looking or hoping to emulate the success that the buyers on Storage Wars have had may get their chance soon. Storagetreasures.com, which Dotson is one of the co-creators of, is taking applications for people interested in becoming an auction buyer on the show.

The contents of random self storage units led to success for Hester and Dotson; maybe they can do the same for you!
