Self Storage Symposium To Be Held

Inside Self-Storage announced that they will present a symposium for self storage owners, investors, and developers on Sept. 23 and 24. It will be held at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers in Chicago.

“As the self-storage industry continues to boom, we felt there was a true need in the marketplace to facilitate this type of education and discussion,” said ISS Vice President Troy Bix. “This conference is designed with success in mind for every attendee. Each person will leave armed with the knowledge and skills to make an impact on the self-storage industry.”

The symposium will be divided into two separate one-day conferences. The first conference, which is on Sept. 23, is designed for existing facility owners and managers. The panels will address industry principles and best practices that will help owners run an efficient and profitable business.

Several critical issues will be discussed including the latest operational trends and strategies, staffing issues, marketing ideas, and revenue management. Bob Copper, owner and partner of Self-Storage 101, will be the keynote speaker.

The following day’s conference will target self storage developers. The topics that will be covered include advice on building new facilities, converting a previously used building into a self storage facility, and renovating an existing facility. Attendees will discuss case studies that illustrate development strategies, learn how to succeed in the self storage business, and learn how to avoid bad investments.

Speakers on Sept. 24 come from a variety of self storage businesses. They include:

  • Jim Chiswell, President of Chiswell & Associates LLC
  • Rick Dodge, Vice-President of Paramount Metal Systems
  • Bob Hayworth, CEO of Baja Construction Co.
  • Shawn Hill, Principal with The BSC Group
  • Devin Humber, Principal with The BSC Group
  • Jim Ponti, Regional Sales Manager of Janus International

Registration for the symposium is now open on Inside Self-Storage’s website [LINK: http://www.insideselfstorage.com/issevents/executive-symposium.aspx]. Individuals can attend both days of the symposium for $1,098. Or, they may choose to attend just for a single day; the Owner/Operator Conference is $499, and the Developers Conference is $799. Space is limited so early registration is encouraged.

Established in 1991, Inside Self-Storage sponsors the industry’s yearly conference and tradeshow, publishes the Inside Self-Storage magazine, and provides educational resources including an online, on-demand manager training and certification program.
