Self Storage Owners Contribute Money and Space for the Needy Through a Variety of Organizations

Everyone knows Texas has a big heart. Now the Texas Self Storage Association is looking to highlight what a big heart self storage owners have when it comes to contributions to the community and working with the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Galveston. The local storage industry is being recognized for how they make a difference in a child’s life.

The Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) has long worked with the Shriners Children’s Hospital, collecting $230,000 in 2009 and even more in 2010, although exact numbers are not yet in. Amazing Spaces Storage Centers has worked with TSSA to support the Shriners for the past seven years. This year, Amazing Spaces matched each dollar donated to double the amount raised. All that is raised goes to the Shriners Hospital. The group’s annual convention in Fort Worth from Oct. 17 – 20, 2010, marked the end of the Make a Difference Campaign.

Shriners Hospitals for Children is a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all service in a family-centered environment, regardless of the patients’ ability to pay.

Storage facilities across the country are coming up with different ways to support charitable organizations, often helping the homeless, needy children, and children in need of hospital care. Teaming up with organizations both large and small, the storage facility owners reach out to the community to drum up support for a cause. The donations might involve money, while donations of food and clothes are also popular. Sometimes what is needed is storage space itself, a place to collect and store goods for the needy.

Some storage facilities are helping the Good Will Industries. In El Paso, Texas, Sun City Self Storage is accepting clothing donations for the needy. They are also giving away free storage to Goodwill while donations are gathered. Anyone who donates will receive a voucher for one month of free storage. The clothing drive runs through Dec. 31, 2010.

UNITS Mobile Storage of Orlando donates storage to local charitable organizations that need the space for events. The storage facility’s generosity has been greatly appreciated and many groups take advantage of the donated space. Organizations like Toys-for-Tots, Central Florida Zoo, and Habitat for Humanity have used the company’s portable storage containers.
