Remember the scene in Apollo 13 when the engineers are told to figure out how to make something that the guys in the space shuttle desperately needed to live, but with some random stuff that appeared to be useless? And how they figured how to devise a contraption that was vital to getting the astronauts back home?
Can there be a better example of making the most with what you have? It is not always what people want to do, but sometimes it is what they have to do. Then again, it is also sometimes the prudent thing to do in order to be successful.
Having a presence on the internet is almost a prerequisite for success in business—self storage or otherwise. In the self storage industry there are several sites called aggregators that act as a virtual yellow book for self storage facilities. By inputting their desired location to the search engine on these sites users are able to locate a number of different facilities to choose from.
“Storage customers are encouraged to find a storage facility at a location that is convenient for them and to book a storage unit at the price and special offered, before they lose it,” said Victor Dante, CEO and Founder of USSelfStorageLocator.com.
Of course to be found on the internet a facility needs a presence on it. Rather than just have a page with basic information many self storage facilities are making the most out of what a presence on the internet has to offer.
Take Southern Self Storage in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, for example. The facility decided to start the New Year by revamping their web site and making it more customer friendly.
“We are thrilled to offer our customers such convenience,” says Marketing Manager Tresha Powe. “We are always trying to identify ways in which we can improve our services and with so many people now shopping online, adding a guaranteed rental option to our website just seemed like a natural progression for us.”
Among the new additions to the site is the option to guarantee their storage unit rental by making a debit or credit card. They can also print out and review the lease agreement. As a little encouragement to utilize the site tenants that rent online will get a 10 percent discount.
Websites can be pretty basic, but if a company really wants to the possibilities are endless. It all depends on how much a facility wants to make with the presence that it has online.
