Self Storage Industry Doing its Part to Fight Cancer

Cancer is a disease that ends thousands of lives every year. There probably isn’t a person on the earth that does not have a relative or friend that has been afflicted with the disease. With more and more lives being taken by cancer every year, continuing to do research into the various forms of cancer is important work.

Various members of the self storage industry have been doing their part to make sure that various cancer-related organizations continue to get the funding they need.

Performance Self Storage Group (PSSG), a brokerage, marketing, and consulting firm that works with self storage facilities, recently began a plan to make donations to Kure It

“We were moved by the Kure It presentation, and knew we had to get involved,” said Jason Allen, one of the partners involved in PSSG. They had learned about Kure It and its purpose during an event hosted by the California Self Storage Association.

Kure It is an organization that works to raise funds for research into kidney cancer as well as research into other underfunded cancers. It was founded back in April 2007 by Barry Hoeven, a self storage industry professional, who had been battling kidney cancer for years.

Allen and his partner Carl Touhey have agreed to donate a percentage of the commission off of future self storage related transactions. They have already presented Kure It with a $2000 check after completing the sale of Harbour Point Self Storage in Elk Grove, California.

“We are grateful for PSSG’s support of our mission. They are an inspiration to others in the industry who are likely to follow the example set by Jason and Carl,” said Karen Jones, director of Kure It.

PSSG is just one of many groups that donate to Kure It and other cancer research organizations. USstoragesearch.com, a website that serves as an online directory for self storage facilities around the country, donated $5000 to Kure It in March at the Inside Self Storage Trade Expo in Las Vegas.

The California Self Storage Association has a couple of programs geared towards benefitting Kure It, Store for the Kure and Round up for Research. In both, prospective tenants and current ones that are interested in participating can donate $.50 a month by adding that much to their rental payment. Their hope is to raise over $1 million to go towards finding a cure for cancer.
