For those that experience the joy of giving each holiday season there is only one feeling that can be greater than knowing that you helped feed a needy family, keep them warm when it is cold outside, or put a smile on a child’s face on Christmas morning—knowing that they helped install the spirit of giving in another person. Recently, a self storage company in the UK got to experience that feeling.
Not too long ago, Access Self Storage in the UK announced that they would be setting up donation stations at all 56 self storage facilities across the country. People could drop by with gifts to donate to needy children that would then be sorted and eventually delivered to needy families in each respective store’s general location.
“We are delighted to be running the Access Christmas Gift Appeal and are eager to encourage locals to show their support and donate their unused gifts. Christmas is a time of year to enjoy and we hope to put a smile on the faces of local children,” said Access Self Storage marketing manager Kevin Pratt.
The spirit of giving did inspire at least one celebrity already—British fashion designer Julien Macdonald, who designed the dress worn by Gloria May Jagger at the 2011 British Fashion Awards on Monday, November 28.
MacDonald, who has been a judge on Britain’s next Top Model since 2010, heard about the Gift Appeal going on and decided to stop in and lend a helping hand by making a donation. Last Friday he stopped by the self storage facility at Shepherd’s Bush Road with some toys including some autographed Barbie dolls.
Across the “pond,” self storage facilities and other local organizations are gearing up for toy drives all over the country. LifeStorage, a Chicago-area self storage company, recently announced that all 17 of its locations will be setting up donation stations in conjunction with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.
“When we learned about the Toys for Tots organization and how just one drop-off location can help so many children and families during the holidays, we knew that if all our LifeStorage locations worked together to help this charity that it would be a huge contribution to the cause. We’ve been doing this for a few years now and each year we fill more boxes with new toys…,” said Marc Pollizi, a manager at one of the LifeStorage locations.
