Self Storage Company Continues to Expand Close to Home

Growing and expanding a business is tough. Not only do you need the know-how, but you have to have the capital to do so as well. Many companies, like LifeStorage Self Storage, will look to other markets far away from their base of operations. However, while it is good to look to other markets it is important not to forget where you came from.

LifeStorage has been busy in recent months opening a number of new facilities, including four a good distance from their base of operations in the Chicago area– Las Vegas. They had been managing them, but decided to go ahead and acquire them and place them under the LifeStorage banner.

“We have learned a lot by managing 40 self-storage locations, and we are busy putting our best practices to work,” said a LifeStorage executive. “We hope our customers will like the changes.”

While they have been busy outside of Illinois they have not forgotten about taking care of their home market. In late July they opened up another facility in the Chicago-area in Harwood Heights.

“We’re excited to open another Chicagoland storage facility to better serve our customers,” said Michelle Wright, LifeStorage Director of Operations. “This new facility in Harwood Heights is at a great location with plenty of features we think our customers will appreciate”

The new building is one that was converted from an existing structure into a one-story 159,000 square foot facility. Construction began back in October 2012, but located near a shopping mall, within a mile of the interstate, five miles from the airport, and just 15 minutes from downtown Chicago they were willing to wait.

“The location for this storage facility is ideal, with shopping, transportation, restaurants and entertainment adjacent to the site,” said Steve Osborne, the construction manager. “We think it will prove to be a convenient location for self storage customers.”

This Lifestorage facility is going to be a little different from most self storage facilities. With so many small businesses making use of self storage facilities rather than renting warehouse space the company had office suites constructed on the second floor of the building complete with a lounge and kitchen area.

LifeStorage has not hesitated to be different from the average self storage facility in the past. When the company opened its 18th facility in August 2012 it included a lounge area complete with a Starbucks coffee bar!
