There are certain places over the next month that folks are going to have to go like the in-law’s house, the mall to shop for presents, or the grocery store to shop for food; all places they don’t really want to go but have to. The worst part isn’t the destination though, but the journey. It’s the drive on all the congested roads that is unpleasant.
During the holidays a lot of self storage facilities will be actively engaged in driving and will be hoping to do as much as possible. They will not be driving over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house though. For them it will be food, toy, and clothing/coat drives.
November and December can be tough times for a lot of people. As the cold weather sets in they don’t always have the appropriate clothing to handle the cold. Some may not have the means to give their little ones toys on Christmas morning, or much to serve for dinner on Thanksgiving.
That’s where many self storage facilities come in handy.
For example, Apple Self Storage recently kicked off its food drives at its facilities in Halifax and Dartmouth (Nova Scotia). Up until December 23 new tenants that bring in a non-perishable food item will receive 10 percent off their rental. They hope to raise more than 300 pounds of food so that they can help fill as many bellies as possible during the holidays.
Many self storage facilities engage in some kind of toy drive; if not for the U.S. Marines Toy for Tots drive for a local cause. ABC Self Storage (in Loveland, Colorado) is engaged in a toy drive to benefit the McKee Medical Center and the 15 families it has decided to adopt. If all goes well they hope to beat last year’s mark and collect over 500 individual toys.
“It’s amazing how many children there are who can’t have a birthday or Christmas,” said Barbi Burton, owner and operations manager of ABC Self Storage. “It’s heartbreaking.”
This year Storage Post Self Storage will be engaging in the New York Cares Coat Drive once again.
“We look forward to this event every year because we believe in being a good neighbor and helping our communities as much as possible. This coat drive is so important to the local people in need, especially after Hurricane Sandy left so many families without homes last year,” said Pete Gioiello, Storage Post’s vice president of operations. “We encourage our customers, friends and families to donate to the New York Cares Coat Drive.”
