Conferences are a great source of professional development. You can learn about new technology, trends, and the latest news about what is happening in the industry. It’s a great time to network, to meet new people and connect with long-time associates that you haven’t seen for a while. Check to see what’s on your calendar in May. That’s when the Arizona Self Storage Association will be holding their 2014 conference and trade show.
The Arizona Self Storage Association announced that their 2014 conference will be held May 12-14. It will be held at the Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino in Chandler, Arizona. (That is where it was held last year.)
The event kicks off with the annual golf tournament on May 12. It will be at the Whirlwind Golf Course at Wild Horse Pass. The tournament will have a new format and will feature contests, incentives, and prizes. This format is meant to attract more conference attendees to participate in the event.
The keynote speaker will be Jim Jackson, author of “Power to Change: You Always Have A Choice.” For almost 30 years, Jackson has been a performance coach to business leaders, teams, and companies. Some of his clients include Toyota, Hewlett Packard, Disney, and Intel.
There will also be a special guest speaker. Phoenix Police Officer Jason Schechterle will speak. When his police car was rear-ended 12 years ago, his car burst into flames and he was burned over 90 percent of his body. He had an amazing recovery. Now, Schechterle shares his compelling story in an effort to help people overcome adversity.
Other speakers will talk on a wide variety of topics. Connie Kandansky, a marketing coach, will present information on sales techniques. Sue Haviland, from Haviland Storage, will share operational training ideas. Chuck Barbo or Catalyst Storage, former chairman, CEO, and founder of Shurguard Storage will talk about the state of the self storage industry. Doug McCarron, with Jones Lang LaSalle, will report on the Arizona Self Storage Market Study and will share his thoughts and insights into today’s capital markets.
In addition to the presentations, the trade show will have 70 vendors. The floor will be open on both days of the trade show. There will be food an beverage offerings there.
The Arizona Self Storage Association was founded in 1996. The association has more than 550 facility and vendor members. They provide their members with a legislative watch, access to outside legal counsel, a website that is an online database that links potential renters with members, and a quarterly newsletter.
