Self Storage and Sports Go Hand in Hand

Everyone is aware of what guilt by association is. Hang around the wrong crowd that gets involved in illegal things and you’ll be guilty right along with them whether you did anything or not. The same holds true for a positive affiliation. Politicians are quick to jump on board of popular legislation as co-sponsors in the hopes that they will get a little good press from the affiliation.

That is exactly what companies do when they jump on board with the local sports teams in some way, shape, or form. Self storage companies like to develop relationships with sports teams in their area with the hopes that when people see their banner associated with the team it will help drive customers their way.

A-All Mini Storage in North Highlands, CA, will be doing just that when NASCAR comes to town in April. The self storage company will be sponsoring the Bonus Challenge 100 and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series Toyota Napa Auto Care 150 being run on April 15 and 16 at the All American Speedway in Roseville,California.

The races will feature some of the top up and coming stock car drivers in NASCAR. Past drivers on this circuit have included Kevin Harvick, Clint Boyer, David Gilliland and current Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne.

Self storage companies get involved in other ways with sports team than just sponsorship. Many will come up with cross-promotional ideas that get out both the name of the team and the self storage company.

Uncle Bob’s Storage in upstate New York has teamed up with the Syracuse Crunch, a local minor league hockey team, to sponsor an Uncle of the Year contest. Nieces and nephews can write a short essay saying why their favorite uncle deserves to be the Uncle of the Year and turn it in at the guest services table at a game or they can email it in to the team.

The winner will get a voucher for free tickets to games in the 2011-12 season for the Crunch. The two have gotten together for other promotions as well such as the “Name Your Price” promotion; buy one game ticket and get another for whatever price you name.

Another self storage company, Mini-U Self Storage, likes to use their relationship with sports teams in a very blunt fashion, rent from them and get free tickets to a local sports team. Among some of the many teams that are affiliated with the company are the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Anaheim Ducks, Washington Redskins, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, and Colorado Rockies.

When it comes to a solid promotional idea you really can’t go wrong with a professional sports team!
