Yes, the holidays are over and it’s now just a warm fuzzy memory. Yes, the drives to collect winter clothing, toys, and food to help the less fortunate are finished.  However, the numbers for some of those drives are finally in and tabulated. And those numbers are pretty amazing.

For many years, San Diego Self Storage (SDSS) has participated in the Toys for Tots that is sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Last year they were able to collect and donate a substantial amount of new toys to give to Toys for Tots. This past Christmas season, SDSS surpassed last year’s amount collected. For the 2013 Christmas season San Diego Self Storage donated 16, 232 new toys to the Toys for Tots program.

In addition to collecting new toys, SDSS also collected $1,126 in cash donations that was given to the Toys for Tots program, too. A lot of families had a lovely Christmas thanks to the toy and monetary donations given to San Diego Self Storage.

Rubio’s participated in the toy drive with SDSS. They offered a coupon for a free taco to the first 50 donors who dropped of a toy at each of the 18 SDSS facilities. Rubio’s also offered Free Eats coupons. SDSS also held a drawing for a $100 credit towards a storage rental (for either a new or existing tenant) and Rubio’s donated a four-pack of complimentary meal cards.

J. Terry Aston, SDSS Managing Partner, expressed his thanks to Rubio’s for being a campaign partner this year. He said that SDSS is very grateful for their support and said that Rubio’s definitely contributed to the success of the toy drive.

The Toys for Tots program has been around for 64 consecutive years. Part of the goal of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve is to send a message of hope to youngsters. The Corps wants to motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens, and strong community leaders.

In addition to the 18 facilities in San Diego, SDSS has additional locations in Los Angeles, Riverside, and Orange counties. Founded in 1972, SDSS is locally owned and operated.  SDSS gives special discounts to active military families – and to senior citizens.

SDSS has a free truck service when people move their belongings into their storage unit. They also have a “1-year price guarantee” where the price of the storage unit will remain the same for one year from the start of the lease with no increase in rental rates.
