Expenses. Revenue. Every business hopes to bring in more revenue than the expenses they incur. And, they are always on the look out for ways to cut costs. When looking for ways to save money, sometimes small things can bring significant savings. Small things such as changing the type of light bulbs you use in your business.

Safe Haven Self Storage in Mount Kisco, New York, decided to swap out their regular light bulbs that they had and use LED lights. They contracted with Xeleim Lighting to make the change.

Kristian Pariseau, Safe Haven Director of Operations indicated that the cost savings for the change were much better than they originally thought. They have been so pleased with the success of that conversion in that facility they decided to change the lighting at their Elmsford, New York, facility, too.

For the Safe Haven facility in Elmsford, Xeleum Lighting will install 739 Xeleum Titanium Series LED fixtures and 125 Xeleum XCO-100 dual motion and daylight controllers.

Xeleum obtained a $30,077 rebate for Safe Haven through the Con Edison’s Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency Program. With that rebate and with special financing, Safe Haven did not have any initial out of pocket expenses for this conversion project.

There are several significant reasons why using LED lights is a good idea. First, they have a remarkably long lifespan. They can last up to 5 times longer than a fluorescent bulb and much longer than a traditional incandescent bulb. Some LED lights will last up to 50,000 hours. A LED light that is on for 8 ours a day will last about 17 years. That’s a long time between changing bulbs!

Because you don’t have to change LED lights very often, they are perfect for lights that are that are in high, difficult to reach places.  You won’t have to climb up to that difficult to reach spot for many years.

LED lights are more energy efficient. A 12-watt LED bulb provides the same amount of light that a 60-watt incandescent bulb does. So you can use a lower watt bulb and still get the same amount of light. So, you use less electricity.

LED lights also don’t have any moving parts or any filaments. This makes them very durable and low maintenance.

Safe Haven estimates that it will recoup its financial expenditures for this conversion in just a little over two years. They also estimate that they will have a five-year savings of over $223,500.
