The hustle and bustle of the holidays is over. The Christmas decorations are put away and the tree is taken down. People have returned to their normal day-to-day activities. But the feeling of good will lingers on – especially for San Diego Self Storage.

This past Christmas season, San Diego Self Storage hosted their 14th annual Toys for Tots drive. Each year, they hope to receive a few more toys than were collected in previous years. For the 2012 holiday season, not only did they collect as many toys as they did in 2011, they collected 50% more!  In 2011, they collected 10,726 toys. In 2012, they collected 16,232 toys by the culmination of their toy drive. To put it mildly, their drive was a resounding success.

San Diego Self Storage is particularly pleased with their success. J. Terry Aston, SDSS managing partner, indicated that initially the collection campaign got off to a very slow start. Not very many toys were being dropped off. But then, San Diego residents rose to the occasion and started donating more toys. The number of toys collected significantly surpassed the amount collected from the previous year.

All 18 of their facilities participated in the toy drive. (SSDS has facilities in Carlsbad, Carmel Valley, East Lake, Encinitas, Golden Triangle, Jamacha Point, (Escondido), Olivenhain, Otay Crossing, Otay Mesa, Poway, Solana Beach, Sorrento Mesa, Temecula, and Sorrento Valley.) Additionally, SSDS was also on hand at the San Diego Charger home game on December 16, 2012 at the Qualcomm stadium to collect toys from people who attended the game.

Aston indicated that his business is very pleased to know that they helped to provide toys for so many children and to be a part of a program whose purpose is to ‘send a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders’ (toysfortots.org).

As part of their toy drive, all SDSS facilities also held raffles for $100 credit toward a tenant’s storage rental (for either new or existing tenants). Winners were selected at each facility.

San Diego Self Storage was founded in 1972 and is locally owned and operated. They now have an extensive network of 18 neighborhood self storage facilities throughout San Diego and in Los Angeles, Riverside, and Orange Counties. They offer a unique one-year price for commercial accounts and give discounts for active military families and for senior citizens.
