Auctions have been a part of the self storage industry probably since the industry originated back in the 1960s; as long as there has been rent to pay there has been someone who has not been able to pay their bill. In recent years as the industry has grown, so has the number of units that have been put up for auction.
Reality shows like Storage Wars and Auction Hunters have helped push self storage auctions to the forefront of the American psyche. As millions of people have seen what could be found if they got lucky by having the high bid for the right unit the popularity and interest in auctions at self storage facilities has skyrocketed.
That’s where websites like StorageAuctionBoards.com come in handy.
“People love hearing stories about finds or experiences had at storage auctions,” said Hunter Carr, the website’s administrator. “Those who are new to storage auctions can spend hours reading about the exploits of experienced bidders,” said Carr.
StorageAuctionBoards.com has been providing users with information on auctions including news, guides, and discussions for experienced bidders down to the first time novice buyer. With an estimated 10,000 auctions taking place each day at self storage facilities around the nation, there is always more than enough information to be had on the site whatever your needs may be.
“Becoming a forum member is free and gives you access to view and post in all areas of our website, including our marketplace, where you can get advice for selling the items you’ve acquired at storage auctions,” said Carr.
By mid-March, is set to become the largest online forum dedicated to self storage auctions once it combines users from all the sites it owns into one database. However, as with any service that is in demand, there are other sites that have been created with the purpose of providing users with the same or similar information.
Findselfstorageauctions.com was created back in 2009. Part of their success can be attributed to joining forces with state association, like the Tennessee Self Storage Association, to become the official source for self storage auction listings in the state.
StorageTreasures.com is another is another site dedicated to self storage auctions; they are relatively new having just launched their site early in 20111.
“We are thrilled to be rolling out our fully operational portal just as storage auctions are gaining more and more public attention,” said Storage Treasures President and Founder Lance Watkins. “To put it plainly, the portal is a game changer for the industry and we are pleased to call it our own.”
