Milestones are Meant to be Celebrated in the Self Storage Industry

When you succeed at something it feels good. Depending on the gravity of the task you may even feel moved to celebrate. It doesn’t have to be anything big of course. Maybe it is just making it through another year, birthdays, anniversaries, or making it a milestone of some kind. While this is entirely true for people it is also true for the self storage industry.

For example, starting a facility along is a task worthy of celebration. Opening a business of any kind is no simple task, but it is even harder to keep it open. When it was just a matter of construction the goal was pretty clear. However, when it comes to conducting business that’s another matter altogether.

So when you do it well enough to be in business for 15 years it is an accomplishment worth celebrating. Westy Self Storage in Elmsford, New York, is doing just that this year after opening its doors back in 2013.

“We are pleased to be a part of the Elmsford community,” said Tim Mincin, district director of Westy Self Storage, Elmsford. “Our tenure has allowed us to truly get to know our neighbors and give something back to the community.”

The company itself was founded back in 1990 and has since grown to include 17 facilities in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey.

In the Houston, Texas, area Amazing Spaces recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. Also celebrating anniversaries this year is the Stor-All Storage branch in Deerfield Beach, Florida (its 25th). The Weston branch recently celebrated its tenth anniversary.

“Weston Stor-All proves that a storage property can have a long economic life, if it is built to high standards of quality and immaculately maintained. We take great pride in doing both. Ten years in operation is certainly an accomplishment, but some Stor-All storage properties are over 20 years in age and look almost new. We feel confident in our people and that our practices will ensure that many more of our storage properties will continue to appeal to our customers and be successful for many years to come,” said Jeff Anderson, the managing partner of Stor-All.

Of course birthdays and anniversaries are not the only notable milestones that deserve to be celebrated in the self storage industry. With 50,000+ facilities around the country there are likely hundreds if not thousands of worthy goals.

Then there are some of the satellite businesses that have spun off the self storage industry. For example, in October 2012 PhoneSmart—a call center service for self storage facilities—hit a pretty big milestone.

It took its 1,000,000th reservation over the phone.

“When we wrote our first lead reservation in December of 2000 we had no idea we’d end up writing another million of them,” said PhoneSmart spokesperson Tron Jordheim. “What a thrill.”
