Marketing Your Self Storage Facility Dull? Go to a Party!

Deciding to go into business is hard. Getting it started is no piece of cake either. However, what is likely the hardest task of all when it comes to getting a business going and keeping it successful is marketing. After all, if people do not know that your facility exists than they cannot store their personal treasures there, right?

The problem is developing the kind of marketing strategy that will not only reach your customer base, but one that is cost effective in the process. You can go with traditional ads like billboards and/or radio or television spots, but they are really the safe, general routes. That doesn’t mean they are going to work.

Sometimes what you need to do is change things up and break away from the norm. These days people like to be wowed; they want something that is going to grab they’re attention; nothing boring and dull. 

Many facilities have discovered a way to get out and meet one’s customer base face to face and have a little fun in the process. They go to a party.

This isn’t to say that self storage facilities around the country should send employees to fraternity row every Friday night. They just need to become a part of local, community get-togethers.

For example, the Storage Post self storage facility in Yonkers, New York, recently attended the first Yonkers Community Garden October-Fest. Like other community businesses they set up a booth where they had the opportunity to meet with upwards of 500 people from the community that were in attendance.

“Storage Post really encourages employees to take part in local events, which is why the Yonkers location partnered with the Greyston Foundation for the Community Garden October-Fest. We had a great time and enjoyed connecting with the community,” said Yonkers manager Kenneth McGuire.

Even if the people in attendance did not rent a unit at the facility they may know someone that does. Assuming they walked away with a favorable impression chances are good they will recommend Storage Post to their friends. There is little that can compete with a personal recommendation.

Storage Post facilities have made attendance at events such as the Yonkers one a reoccurring theme. Back in June the company was represented at the Maspeth Chamber of Commerce Grand Avenue Festival. Last October the Suffern, New York, facility was at the Nyack Famous Street Fair where over 25,000 people were in attendance.

Getting exposure like that while in attendance at a party is something you just can’t beat!
