LifeStorage Self Storage in Chicago Helps Raise Toys

LifeStorage, Chicago self storage provider, is the official storage facility for all donations collected by the Julian D. King Gift Foundation toy drive. The culminating event of the toy drive is sponsored by the WGN Morning News and will be held from 5 a.m. through 9 a.m. on December 20th at the station’s studio located 2501 W. Bradley Place. There will be a visit from St. Nick, Christmas carolers, holiday fun, and an appearance by Jennifer Hudson.

This is the ninth year for the Drive-Thru Toy Drive. The foundation has already held 4 satellite toy drives since November 16. Toys will be given to needy children in Chicago.

Jennifer Hudson formed the Julian D. King Gift Foundation in honor of her nephew who was tragically murdered in 2008. (Hudson’s mother and brother were also slain in the same incident.) People interested in participating in the drive can donate new, unwrapped toys.

This is the second year that LifeStorage is the official place to store toys collected in the drive. One of its 17 self storage facilities will be the secret location where the toys are kept.

“On top of our myriad charity events, we were also accepting Toys for Tots donations at all of our locations. During talks with WGN about TV commercials, they told us about their toy drive and the Julian D. King Gift Foundation. WGN mentioned that they needed boxes, trucks, and indoor climate-controlled storage for all of the toy donations. We had everything needed readily available and wanted to be a part of it,” said Matthew T. Clark, Vice President of Operations, LifeStorage Records Management, LLC.

LifeStorage will keep the toys until Christmas Eve when they will be distributed by LifeStorage and the Julian D. King Gift Foundation.

“WGN, Jennifer Hudson and the Foundation have used all of their resources to promote this toy drive and ensure enough toys will be collected so that no child in Chicago will have to go without this holiday season. LifeStorage is excited to be a part of such a noble effort and has a positive influence on the towns where our businesses are located, and the communities we do business with,” Clark said.

LifeStorage has climate controlled storage units and a covered drive-in loading area. Their floors are covered with VCT-tile to minimize dust and moisture. They also offer office suites with high-speed Internet access, private mail boxes, conference rooms, copying and faxing. They also accept deliveries.
