Every business—self storage or otherwise– has to start somewhere; usually at the bottom. Once someone becomes the first than others typically follow suit effectively laying the groundwork for serious expansion. When said groundwork is laid the next step is proving the ability to step up to the next level is there.
How better to do that than to host a trade show?
In Latin America the self storage industry has grown large enough to warrant having its first trade show. Come early November members of the industry will travel to the city of Sao Paulo in Brazil for Expo 13, what organizers likely hope will be the first of many trade and educational shows.
“I am very excited to see the growth of the self-storage industry in Latin America,” Nancy Torres, President of the Latin American Self Storage Association says. “The first Latin American trade show and education expo in Brazil will benefit all members of LASSA as it will offer educational sessions aimed at the unique nature of our market, as well as the opportunity to learn from other operators in the region and to see firsthand the products and technologies developed specifically for our industry.”
The schedule of events has yet to be filled out, but the keynote speaker has been announced, Patrick Reilly, Chairman of the Board of the Self Storage Association and President and CEO of Urban Self Storage.
The self storage industry is larger in the United Stated than anywhere in the world followed by Canada (approximately 3000) and Australia (about 1000), but the industry is growing by leaps and bounds in other parts of the world—like Brazil and other countries in Latin America.
“…Today, more countries around the world are picking up on this trend, and nowhere is that more evident than in the Latin American countries. Investors now see great potential in Central and South America as host locations for new facilities,” said David Blum, President of Better Management Systems who is co-hosting the trade show in Sao Paulo.
As the industry continues to grow in Latin America it will likely begin to take on a life of its own much like it has in the United States and other countries. For example, in Singapore, Self Storage Solutions (which is owned by the Singapore Post) is already integrating other businesses in with the self storage industry. The company’s three facilities in Singapore also offer postal service.
