During the Information Age there is one thing that you can count on. If there is an injustice or something bad going on in the world, someone, somewhere will be informed about it. As long as he/she/they have access to a computer and an internet signal they will do their best to inform the rest of the world about whatever it is.
As a result, many people and companies have become better informed, and most even try to make sure that they do not partake in any such injustice of negative activities. At the same time they know that if they do something perceived as good for the world—again, thanks to the Information Age—the message will get out about those efforts.
A popular term in many industries these days is “going green.” Companies like those in the self storage industry are trying to do their best to show they care for the environment and their impact on it by trying to lessen that impact—by going green.
One company in the self storage industry was proud to announce that is has been working hard to lessen its carbon footprint by focusing on a number of simple “green” efforts.
Storage Masters, a self storage company with facilities in Florida, Texas, Colorado, and Missouri, has been focusing on lighting to reduce its impact on the environment. Chief among the different efforts has been switching to energy saving light fixtures and using smaller bulbs.
To further lessen the impact they have also installed motion sensitive detectors. During pre-programmed hours the lights will come on when motion is detected allowing them to be off when no one is in need of illumination.
“We are very excited about the new energy-efficient improvements in each of the Storage Masters locations….We will continue to develop greener facilities and are looking into utilizing solar energy, especially for our Orlando storage facility, in the near future. Our hope is to set the standard for green facilities in the storage industry and pass these benefits along to the consumers in our local communities.”
According to a representative of Storage Masters, through the “green” efforts that they have employed over the last year they have been able to cut energy consumption at all eight facilities by more than half. So not only will the company save money by reducing its environmental impact, but by generating positive press it will create future business opportunities that will result in making more money.
Many other self storage companies have been getting involved and “going green.” Amazing Spaces, a self storage company with four facilities in and around the Houston, Texas, area, has gotten involved in GREENspot DROPoff, an effort that concentrates on helping people get rid of electronic waste (i.e. old computers, fax machines, printers, etc.).
So not only will the company save money by reducing its environmental impact, but by generating positive press it will create future business opportunities that will result in making more money. Sounds like the definition of a win-win situation.
