Hide-Away Storage in Florida Helps with Fundraiser

In 2009, 41% of the children born in the United States were born to unmarried mothers. Seventy-seven percent of these births were not intended – meaning they were not planned pregnancies. Statistics further show that the U.S. has the highest teen pregnancy rate of the Western industrialized world. Some people have observed that teens do a better job at planning to buy tickets to a concert than they do about when they will have children.

Unwed, pregnant young women face many crucial questions. It’s difficult to make these tough decisions and to know how to deal with an unplanned pregnancy. SOLVE Maternity Homes in Florida understands these girls’ dilemma and reaches out to them and helps them navigate through their difficult times.

SOLVE recently held its 4th annual rummage sale to raise money to fund their program. Hide-Away Storage donated two storage units in an effort to support SOLVE with their efforts.

Over 50 volunteers helped with the fundraiser. They collected and sorted items, put price tags on them, and put them out on display. SOLVED raised $12,500, which is $2,000 more than they raised last year.

Judy Scott, of SOLVE, expressed her gratitude for Hide-Away giving them two storage units to use. Since SOLVE does not receive any government funding, they appreciate the support they received from Hide-Away and the surrounding community.

Organized in 1976, SOLVE Maternity Homes help young women as they navigate their way through the experience of an unplanned pregnancy. They have a structured program that provides housing, counseling, health care resources, childbirth and parenting classes, adoption assistance (if desired) and spiritual support.

SOLVE Maternity Homes has provided housing and assistance to over 900 women. The live-in house manager oversees the daily operation, which includes taking residents to group activities, appointments, and to the grocery store. Currently, SOLVE has two homes in Bradenton, Florida, and one in Englewood, Florida.

Steve and Maureen Wilson, owners and operators of Hide-Away Storage, opened their first facility in 1977. They now have 12 storage businesses on the west coast of Florida. Ten of their facilities are traditional self storage and 2 are mobile storage warehouses.  Their business is headquartered in Sarasota, Florida.
