Free Self-Storage Webinars Being Held in February

Several free, educational self-storage webinars will be held next month. A webinar comes from the words “web” and “seminar.” A webinar is a meeting or conference that is held over the Internet, usually for training or educational purposes.

The first upcoming self-storage webinar, “Capital Markets and Self Storage Market Overview,” will be held on Feb. 18, from 1 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. CT. It will be hosted by Holliday Fenoglio Fowler (HFF), a commercial real estate capital intermediary with 17 offices all around the country. Holliday Fenoglio Fowler specializes in finding financing for real estate deals, averaging 3.8 closings per business day. Last October, HFF closed the sale of a nine-property Texas self-storage portfolio to Harrison Street Real Estate Capital. Over the summer, HFF closed the sale of two New Jersey self-storage properties. And at the beginning of 2009, HFF helped The Hampshire Companies to buy Berkeley Heights Self Storage, in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, by securing $6 million in financing.

Analysts at HFF feel that this is a good time to invest in self storage real estate, because it is likely to outperform the rest of the industry in the coming year. The capital markets webinar will draw on HFF’s specialized knowledge, discussing such topics as property values, cap rates, real estate transactions, and many other details of capital markets, with an emphasis on how they relate to real estate and to self-storage. The capital markets webinar is free, but space is limited to 100 participants. Spaces can be reserved at HFF’s webinar registration website.

The second webinar, “Prospecting the Self-Storage Owner Through Social Media,” will take place on February 25, at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT/11 a.m. MT/10 a.m. PT. “Prospecting the Self-Storage Owner” is one of MiniCo Insurance’s ongoing webinar series. MiniCo is a program administrator for national specialty insurance programs catering to self-storage facilities, and its webinar is intended for an audience of independent insurance agents who want to learn how to use social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to support their businesses. The webinar will be presented by Mike Schofield, MiniCo Insurance’s president; Rebecca Morse, MiniCo’s circulation and social media manager; and Krys Morrison, MiniCo’s customer care coordinator. The webinar will be moderated by the publisher of MiniCo Publishing, Poppy Behrens. Topics to be covered include:

  • how insurance agents can maximize social media
  • best business practices for connecting with prospects
  • attracting self-storage followers
  • networking with self-storage decision-makers
  • promoting your agency’s product lines

Like HFF’s webinar, MiniCo’s webinar is free, but online registration is required.
