Located at the corner of North 10th and Taylor Street in beautiful San Jose, Elke McKeown’s Extra Space Storage Facility is a vital member of a flourishing urban community. Formerly a manufacturing site, this particular Extra Space Storage Facility opened its doors in September of 2009. Since then, it has become the area’s primary provider of storage solutions.

“We store all kinds of things,” says McKeown, the Site Manager, “from a college student’s dorm things to cars. People have stored antiques here, and we have a couple of art dealers. We also have an auto company here, and there’s a business that builds bikes and beach cruisers. But then we also have just simple ones, with people storing items when they’re uprooting their home and moving to another one.”

While some storage facilities can be difficult to find, the North 10th Street Extra Space Storage Facility is accessible by several different routes.

“We’re incredibly easy to get to,” says McKeown. “In fact, we’re right in the middle of several freeways, like 101 and 87.”

When passing through the neighborhood, visitors will notice a wealth of cultural outlets and dining options. This is due, the Site Manager states, to their proximity to several fascinating locations.

“Actually, we’re moving into a new kind of residential area, with Japantown right smack dab in the middle. Of course there’s also downtown San Jose, which has a lot of attractions and we’re fairly close to that. But Japantown is only two or three blocks over, and that’s a big deal. That’s a cute little area to go down and walk through.”

Also within range, she notes, are several museums. Included among these is the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose, which features a wealth of educational opportunities for area youngsters. McKeown also cites the area’s eclectic list of dining options as one of its biggest charms.

“There’s one little restaurant right down the street that’s been here for about 35 years. It’s a nice little place called Happy Smile Deli. Then you’ve got P.F. Changs – That’s my favorite.”
