Being the Best Never Hurts in the Self Storage Industry

There is no better way to advertise than to just be awesome. Yes, a good scandal or two will get you in the news, but for a business—self storage or otherwise—that is not a good thing. No, when you are named the best it is because the people have spoken, and if they have spoken that means they are talking–and that is good for business.

StorageBattles.com, an online auction service for self storage facilities, was recently named to the 2013 Best of Business as the best auction service by Inside Self Storage

“We are humbled to be honored by the storage community that has chosen to vote for and support us. The acceptance of StorageBattles.com from the ISS voting members, who are made up of our industry peers continues to add validity to online auctions and our overall acceptance in this industry,” says Jim Grant, company CEO.

Lien auctions are a regrettable part of the industry, but an important one nonetheless. When tenants miss too may payments self storage owners have the right to auction off the contents of the unit to recoup the lost rent.

With the popularity of auctions growing in recent years as a number of different reality television shows have opened the eyes of many potential buyers to the possibility of finding treasure buried deep inside a self storage unit. However, while rising popularity does bring more bidders and the potential for higher return the average for traditional auctions is still right around 50 percent.

According to Grant the average rate of return for online auctions is 117 percent.

“Today the online auction process outweighs the benefits of traditional onsite auctions not only in terms of additional loss recovery but also as a means of reducing operational expenses,” he says.

If owners are making their money back more often than not it is not surprising that they were named the best in the business.

Amazing Spaces in The Woodlands, Texas, understands the value of such accolades as well. For many years the facility has been named the Best Self Storage Facility in the community according to WoodlandsOnline.com.

“Our entire Amazing Spaces team appreciates our wonderful, loyal customers at our Woodlands location, and we thank them for voting us Best in The Woodlands for the fourth year in a row!” said Joe Ordanes, the Woodlands facility manager.
