Santa does have a pretty tall order on this plate every Christmas so it is good that there are plenty of people that want to help him out and insure that kids everywhere have a merry Christmas; people like the U.S. Marines and the Arizona Self Storage Association.
Back in 1947 the charity that would in time become the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program that we have today. The original program served one community in its first year and collected about 5000 toys. Fast forward more than six decades and the program now engages over 700 coordinators and 25,000 marines and volunteers to collect and pass out the millions of toys that are collected.
In the past members of the self storage industry have helped out by serving as locations where people could drop of donations. Some take it a step further by donating storage space for the toys prior to them being delivered.
This season the Arizona Self Storage Association wants to do its part and has pledged to encourage its members to serve as drop-off locations for Toys for Tots this holiday season:
“Participating in the Toys for Tots drive is the ideal way for AZSA members to give back to their local communities,” says Don Favreau, President of the Arizona Self-Storage Association. “In view of the current economic difficulties impacting the state of Arizona, participating in the toy drive gives member facilities the opportunity to make a difference and bring happiness to many disadvantaged children this Christmas.”
The AZSSA cannot mandate participation, but is encouraging the 550+ self storage facilities and related vendors to do so. Those that are interested can contact AZSA Public Relations Chair Jennifer Curtis for more information.
Many self storage facilities are already getting into the holiday the spirit in the United States and abroad. A-1 Self Storage (in Southern California) has already begun collecting donations at all 40 of its facilities.
“A-1 Self Storage is always proud to participate in the Toys for Tots Annual Holiday Toy Drive each year. This year marks our fourth anniversary of toy collections…”
The holiday spirit is spreading overseas as well. Access Self Storage in the UK has already kicked off its annual Christmas Charity Appeal:
“This year we are supporting 21 different charities, Action for Children, Save the Children, Kingston Foodbank, Acton Homeless Concern, When you wish upon a Star, Rainbows and many more. We have created special drop-off points in all our stores, where donations will be collected, sorted and delivered to the charities…” said Access Self Storage Marketing Manager Kevin Pratt .
