Apple-Atcan Self Storage Opens New Facility in Eastern Ontario, Canada

Before a self storage owner builds a new facility, he needs to take several things into consideration. He looks at the market feasibility. Are there other self storage facilities in the area? What is the makeup of the housing market (single family homes, apartments) and the population density? Do typical homes in the area have basements or garages? Is there a need for businesses to have storage units or flexible office space? Is there a military base in the area, or a university or resort? Knowing the answers to these types of questions helps the owner to know which areas would be good to build in.
Apple-Atcan Self Storage did their homework and evaluated the area in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. They identified the area as a growing community. There was a significant population of post-secondary students. There is also a strong military presence in the community where many of their relocating personnel need storage options. There were new housing developments bringing more people into the city. After much research, they decided to build a new facility in Kingston.
This expansion is the first facility for Apple-Atcan in eastern Ontario. Currently, they have 5 other facilities located in Ontario, 3 in Nova Scotia, and 6 in New Brunswick. The company has been in the self storage business for over a decade.
The new facility has modern amenities such as state-of the-art security and a computerized admittance system. They have heated and unheated units in a variety of sizes and even have space for vehicle storage. They also accept deliveries and offer mailbox rental space for local businesses.
All units are ground-level which makes it easy for loading and unloading. This facility is the only one in the area that has heated units with drive-up access. The new facility has 35,000 square feet of storage space.
To celebrate the opening of their newest location and to ring in the New Year, Apple-Atcan Self Storage is sponsoring a special deal that runs through the month of January. When customers rent a unit before January 31st, they pay only $20.13 for their first four weeks of use.
Their leadership team includes Philip Allan, president, Scott Allan, CA and vice-president of finance and operations, Jeff Allan, vice-president of development, Debbie Gilbert-King, district manager (Maritimes), Michael Naoum, district manager (Ontario), Joshua Barratt, CGA and corporate controller.
