Many self storage companies are going a little crazy today as the industry enjoys its version of Black Friday, Crazy Tuesday. With Memorial Day Weekend a popular time for people to move whether it is home from college or just to a new place, the self storage industry sees a healthy increase in business. Of course, it—Crazy Tuesday, Memorial Day Weekend—would not exist where it not for the sacrifices made by the men and women of the U.S. Military.
The self storage industry has a long history of supporting members of the Armed Forces. It is not uncommon to see many offer members of the military discounts; some have been known to have giveaways strictly for members of the military. A self storage company owner in Texas got involved with the Honor Flight Network, an organization that helps WWII veterans fly to Washington D.C. so that they can see the WWII Memorial.
One self storage company decided that they wanted to say thank you in a way that would show their appreciation and give the recipients a reason to smile too—care packages.
Door to Door Storage, a unique self storage company headquartered in Kent, Washington, and with facilities in over 54 markets in the United States, has been shipping care packages to troops stationed overseas since 2009 as part of its ‘Door to Door Cares: Supporting Our Troops’ program.
“The entire Door to Door team is committed to this effort,” said Tracey Kelly, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Door to Door Storage. “We are incredibly grateful to our armed forces and especially with the Memorial Day holiday, want to show them how much we appreciate their sacrifices.”
The care packages have contained all sorts of creature comforts from home that the soldiers are likely missing. Many of them have included video games, protein bars, protein drinks, and Starbucks Via among the contents. The packages also contain cards and letters created by kids of Door to Door Storage employees that basically say thank you.
“Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor the U.S. men and women killed or missing in action. We owe them a debt that can never be repaid and encourage others to join with us to remember and honor veterans and those who are currently serving in the military,” said Kelly.
