Rod Christianson, of Glenrock, Wyoming, recently opened a new storage facility with 65 units on the north side of town. He has named it A Big Storage.
Christianson is putting on the finishing touches to his new facility. He is installing a new gate at the front of the property, is sprucing things up, and is generally cleaning up after all of the construction.
Christiansen realized that when people rent a unit for a camper they need a unit with a tall door. However, those units are typically deep because they are built usually for an RV or trailer. This puts camper owners at a great disadvantage. They needth the height but they do not need a deep unit. So the camper owner ends up with extra space in his unit that he isn’t using.
So, A Big Storage is doing something unique – something a little different than what is normally done with storage units with tall doors. Christiansen will allow camper owners to pay in proportion to the space they are using. Since they are only using a partial amount of the space, they only pay a partial amount of the total price of the storage unit. Camper owners do so with the understanding that there is the possibility they would be sharing the unit with someone else.
Christiansen indicated that there is a fairly high demand for storage units in Glenrock. There are two other facilities in town and they are full. That means that before he built his facility, others needing storage were out of luck. There wasn’t any other place in town where they could rent a storage unit. (Glenrock is a small community with a population of around 2,576. So it is rather amazing that it can support three self storage facilities.)
As he looks to the future, Christiansen anticipates that there is a strong possibility that he will be adding on to his storage faculty next summer. He will evaluate what size is needed and then build to that demand. He also indicated that he is aware of the need that businesses and working people have. He plans of developing 8 units for these people in the next two or three years.
Christensen has a background as a business owner of a wide variety of types of businesses. Before moving to Glenrock, he owned resorts in Honduras where he lived for 6 years. He was also owner of a pool and spa business and an owner of industrial shops.
