DIY Home Decor: Video and Instructions

Three Simple DIY Home Decor Ideas to try Today!

Looking for another fun DIY project to beautify your home? Here are three of our favorites:  DIY Framed Fabric; DIY Decoupage Wine Bottles; and DIY Marbled Mugs. All three DIY projects are simple and relatively inexpensive. And all three will help add a little something special to your home. You’ll find a list of needed materials and instructions below!

DIY Framed Fabric

Materials

  • Picture frames
  • Fabric of choice
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Command Strips™

Instructions

Begin by taking out the back end of the picture frame and placing it face down on the wrong side (non-print side) of your fabric. Then, using a pencil, outline the back end of the picture frame on the fabric so you’ll know where to cut. Once outlined, cut out the fabric shape and place right side down in the frame followed by the back end of the picture frame to secure it in place. Repeat this process with as many frames of different sizes to reach the desired effect you want to achieve for your home. Lastly, use the Command Strips™ to secure the frames the wall.

DIY Decoupage Bottle

Materials

  • Mod Podge®
  • Wine bottle
  • Blow dryer
  • Newspaper
  • Decorative paper
  • Paint brush (medium in size)

Instructions

First, lay down some newspaper on the surface you’re working on since this project can get a little messy. Next, begin by removing the label (if any) off your wine bottle and tearing up 2- to 3-inch pieces of decorative paper (TIP: try using a combination of different decorative paper designs to give it more variety).

Then, using the paint brush, apply an even layer of Mod Podge® to the outside of the bottle. Position the pieces of torn decorative paper on top as desired and apply another coat of Mod Podge® over all the piece of paper just placed (this will eventually dry clear so you won’t see any of the Mod Podge® on the bottle). Blow dry as needed but it should be completely dry and ready to use after approximately 30 minutes.

DIY Marbled Mug

Materials

  • Plastic container (bowl)
  • Distilled water
  • White mug
  • Succulent plant
  • River stones
  • Nail polish
  • Mixing stick
  • Paper towel

Instructions

Pour enough distilled water into a large plastic container so the mug will be fully submerged when placed on its side. Drizzle two different colors of nail polish into the container of water (the nail polish will not mix with the water but will float on top). Next, take your mixing stick and briefly stir the water in a zig-zag motion so the nail polish blends together in a marbled-like fashion. Then, take the mug by the handle and dip it into the colorful concoction. Be sure to fully submerge it for only a moment before removing it and placing it on a paper towel to dry. Once dry, place the river stones into the mug followed by the succulent plant. Now, all that’s left is to display it for all to see.
