DIY Shoe Tray for Mudroom/Entry Way

Spring showers often mean water (and mud) gets tracked in the house.  Take advantage of this stylish DIY shoe drip tray to keep your carpets clean and your floors dry. Simply have your family or guests leave their wet shoes on the tray to dry, and save yourself all that messy clean-up. When the water and debris drip off the shoes, it will conveniently collect in the tray – and not on your floor. See the list of needed materials and step-by-step instructions below!

Materials

  • 1 decorative tray
  • 3 bags river stones
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks

Step-by-step Instructions

  1. Find a decorative tray

To find the right decorative tray, you need to consider two things:  size and style. The size of your tray should comfortably fit your family’s biggest shoe size without hanging over the edge. It should also allow enough room for multiple shoes to rest on the tray at one time. The tray’s style should match the theme of the room it will be placed in.

  1. Glue rocks to tray (cover completely)

Let the gluing begin! Heat up your hot glue gun and start gluing each stone into place. Cover the tray completely with a good assortment of dark and light rocks to give it a more natural feel.

  1. Place near house entrance

Place the drip tray near a highly-trafficked house entrance, such as the front or garage door, and enjoy the benefits of a dry entryway.
